From the New Year, new GB energy-efficiency rules will begin phasing out most traditional vented and non-heat-pump condenser tumble dryers. Manufacturers will increasingly supply heat-pump models, which use considerably less electricity but can cost more to buy and take longer to dry.
Existing tumble dryers are not being banned and remain legal to own, use and repair. Traditional models already placed on the market can continue to be sold, although availability and choice will reduce as stocks sell through.
